Teach yourself how to eat healthy

I have had these tips and ideas on my mind for a while, basically the idea to Teach yourself how to eat healthy. I know I am now pregnant and cheating (constantly) on my healthy eating and diet and the last 3 weeks my exercise has just gone out the window and not happened. But my mind cant help but wonder to one day a few months from now when I can get back into shape. So here are my little tips that help keep me from eating badly.

Salad and healthy food

First things first. 

The best way to start this is to identify your worst eating habits. The mistakes you are making on a daily basis that are doing you in with your healthy eating routine. Mine are normally things like sugar in coffee or things I drink that are thought to be healthy but are not actually, like fruit juice. And alcoholic beverages are a killer for weight loss. Bad habits like having a rusk every time u have coffee. Another little thing that was setting me back was having sauce with my food, things like mayo and tomato sauce have added sugar that you do not realize.

Make a list…

Once you Identify your problems then put them in writing! Putting things in writing is a sure way to make it real, get a little diary or corner off the bottom of the page in your work diary and then write notes for your self. Make a list of things you want to avoid eating daily and also It helps to make a list every day of what you have eaten , but be honest with yourself, this is your list and you do not have to show it to anyone so make sure to write down every bit of what you eat and drink in a day and this can help you identify where you can better yourself tomorrow! I find sometimes my day is so busy that I do not even realize I am making bad choices but If I am writing them down then It makes it more real and gives me time to think about my actions.

Diary and lists

Tell People around you …

If you are serious about your lifestyle and eating habits change then make it clear to those around you, tell the people you work with that it means a lot to you to make these changes so that they know not to accidentally bring you cupcakes every day. (Remember you can have a cupcake every now and then and its ok). Like me and my husband, I keep having to tell him to not bring home chocolates from the shop because if he does then I have to eat it so it is better than he knows that I prefer him not to unless I specifically asked for it , in which case he better not come home without it..

Use a Reminder app…

There are so many smart phone apps these days that can be very helpful. There is one that reminds you to drink a glass of water every half an hour (you can set the timer) Or you can get one that has a daily pop up with your list of goals so that they are fresh in your mind every day. Another Great one is a fitness app that makes you do a few exercises when a notification goes off.  I like to get into a routine like making myself do 10 squats in the bathroom quick every time I go pee, currently this is hell because at 23 weeks pregnant I am peeing every flipping 5 min.

Jogging and exercise tips

While you are working on your daily eating habits and food health, also keep in mind that just 20 min a day of activity or exercise can make a big difference in your life, it can boost your energy levels and make you feel like a new person. It is not always about loosing weight, It is mainly about feeling good. A simple thing like 5 min of stretching and a quick squat and push up can make you feel a hundred times better and slightly like super women.

Here is my list of what I would like to change:

  • Cut out sugar
  • cut out bread, cakes and other processed carbs
  • drink more water and no drinking juice or cooldrink
  • up my fitness habits and do more stretches and squats to tone my legs.

    Since commencing my own health/weight loss journey just over two years ago, I have become very focused on food labels. Pretty much anything that needs a label I try not to eat because the amount of crap an added sugar in everything is astounding.
    I also swear my regular weigh in’s, it helps keep me focused and on track.

      yes! that is so true about the labels. And I also believe to do my regular weight check just to keep me up to date on if I am doing something right or wrong. These small things help so much!

    Thanks for the tips! I need to cut out the sweet binging -chocolate is my weakness. Also need to get back into workout mode, I’ve been pretty slack lately :-( I do however keep a pair of weights next to our couch and when we watch tv I try to do a few sets of arm exercises

      Keeping the weights next to the couch is a good idea! I should try that. My weakness is mostly bread, even if its one slice of toast with breakfast its still doing me in with results.
